As of lately, I've seen more and more colds and sore throats than anything. Now that Spring is almost here I would like to tell you about a cough syrup that can be started soon. What is requires is a glass jar, honey and the new pine needles off of a pine tree. The type of tree that it is doesn't matter, it is preferable that the tree has not been sprayed with pesticides as this is an internal remedy.
With the needles fill the jar almost to the top, stopping where the jar starts to curve in. Then pour raw honey over it to the top. Put the lid on tightly and leave in the sun (on a fence post of in a window) for six weeks. After these six weeks, strain out the needles, leaving the honey in another jar. Take this jar and label it, so you remember what it is. Then store it in the fridge.
A remedy that is helpful for sore throats, comes from Tracy who works at nutranomics, and it is warmed up apple juice with garlic and cayenne pepper blended into it. Then honey is added to make it a little sweeter, but also to coat the throat so the herbs have time to work. The garlic works to kill any bacteria that may be causing the sore throat. Then the cayenne brings blood to the area to clean out the toxins and to bring nutrients to the area.
Other herbs that might be helpful for colds and sore throats include: Horseradish, Parsley, Echinacea, Red Raspberry, Marshmallow (looks like hollyhock or as some call it the "cheezy plant"), and Goldenseal (For the women, if you are pregnant do not use this one).
